Bernie Nicholls’ Stock Market App Could Benefit Canadiens Fans

Bernie Nicholls

Bernanrd Irvine Nicholls is no stranger to hockey. He was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, played for six NHL teams (Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, and San Jose Sharks), has played 1127 games, and is one of the only eight players in NHL history to score 70 goals in one season and one of five to score 150 points. Today, however the now Los Angeles Kings coaching consultant has created a new app designed for sports investing and he feels Canadiens fans might be interested.

They could potentially make real money when our real money app opens up,” Nicholls told me in a conversation we had. “People can play for free on our free market and win prizes while they learn to trade sports stocks.” While the idea of trading sports stocks would consist of monetary risk taking, the concept of buying a share in your own team is actually quite brilliant.

Here’s what you need to know about All Sports Market:

  • The app allows you to buy and sell your favourite teams (exactly like a stock market).
  • When you start trading you also accumulate points by generating a profit.
  • You can trade in the points you’ve earned for upgrades and other in App features.
  • You get to earn dividends (dividends are paid on a per share basis when your team(s) win. Dividends = Profits).
  • The app is also free and educational (read about how Nicholls feels young fans can benefit from sports stocks here).

The good thing about this app as well, is that you can either play for fake money or for real money so there’s never the chance of you losing hundreds or even thousands of dollars on your favourite sports team. However, the question still remains: How could this benefit Montreal Canadiens fans?

Nicholls said in a interview with The Hockey Writers that the Habs would be a wise investment for any user of his app. “You know what, Montreal’s got a good team. And what they got that’s really good, is a goaltender. They’ve got arguably one of the best goalies in the world. They got a great franchise. So their stock will be high, and it should be, because they got a good franchise, good team, great goaltending. So I think their shares will be up pretty high, but it’s still a good investment because they have a great team.

Whether you feel like investing real money into one of the oldest franchises in the NHL or just using fake money, the All Sports Market app is definitely something to check out.
