Rabid Habs

Michael McCarron Looking NHL Ready

Michael McCarron

As the Habs 2013 1st round draft pick, Michael McCarron is undoubtedly one of Montreal’s top prospects, and his evolution into a full time NHL player may be key to the Canadiens’ future success.

On Tuesday night, in preseason action against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the one they call Big Mac had himself a Big Game, logging big minutes (13:18) and adding a beautifully sniped goal.

He was also a physical presence all night with 5 hits on his way to being named the game’s first star.

In the lead up to his goal, McCarron was knocked down at the blue line but immediately jumped up and made his way back into the play. Jeff Petry then wired a shot from the point towards the Leaf goal that was blocked and then seemed to be magnetically drawn to McCarron’s stick.

McCarron made no mistake and wristed a laser beam glove side on Leafs goaltender Antoine Bibeau for the Habs first and only goal of the game.

All in all, the kid looked comfortable and played a smart game from start to finish. If he keeps this up he just might make a good case for himself to be in the Habs lineup come opening night.

No room for him, and a year in AHL will be good for him while we await decisions on resigning Pleks and other possible trades.
