Rabid Habs

Game Day: Capitals vs. Canadiens

After nearly half the Habs regulars appeared in the team’s first preseason game, the other half will play tonight when the Washington Capitals come to the Bell Centre.

Not unlike the Habs tilt against Boston, the top two offensive lines appear to be combinations that will be in place at the start of the season. Here’s what the Canadiens will look like when they take the ice tonight:

Pacioretty – Drouin – Hemsky

Hudon – Plekanec – Lehkonen

Martinsen – Froese – Scherbak

Carr – Holland – Eisenschmid

Claude Julien seems content with spreading his offense out throughout the lineup, as Lehkonen projects as a potential third line winger under the Canadiens current combinations. It’s always possible that the line numbers don’t really mean much, but it makes it easier to report about it.

On the blueline, things got interesting.

Streit – Weber

Benn – Davidson

Mete – Jerabek

Marc Streit slots in next to Shea Weber on the top pairing for the first time tonight, while Jordie Benn moves back to the left side in a unit with Brandon Davidson. The third paring is a bit of an unknown, as both Jakob Jerabek and Victor Mete don’t project to make the team in October. Both Mete and Jerabek play a strong transition game, so expect them to showcase that when they can.

Carey Price and Charlie Lindgren will share the net tonight.

The Capitals will ice two of their elite players and some of their hopeful young players. The Caps’ top line has a chance to be their best unit when Montreal visits Washington on October 7th.

Former Hab Devante Smith Pelly makes another return to the Bell Centre on the second line for the Caps.

And on defense:

Not a ton of experience on the blueline for the Caps tonight, but the Capitals hope Madison Bowey takes a large step forward to help alleviate the salary cap crunch.

Game time is 7:00PM EST. Viewers in Canada can see the game on RDS, while Stateside viewers can watch the CSN-DC feed on NHL Network.
