Game Day: Habs and Bruins open the Preseason

And so it begins.

Well, kind of.

The Montreal Canadiens are set to open the preseason against the Boston Bruins tonight at the Centre Videotron in Quebec city. Oddly enough, the Habs will be the road team in this tilt.

The Canadiens announced their roster for the game in Quebec earlier today:

With a decent mix of rookies and veterans, the Habs will put together two lines that have a decent chance of being regulars when the season starts next month. Here’s how Claude Julien will use his roster tonight:

Galchenyuk – Danault – Gallagher

Byron – Mitchell – Shaw

De La Rose – McCarron – Grégoire

Froese – Audette – Waked

The top two lines for the Canadiens have been together since camp started, and coach Julien is probably hoping they can create some chemistry if they stay together throughout camp. Ideally, the top two lines in tonight’s game will be the second and fourth lines when the season starts.

There is some confusion over the defensive parings at the moment, as the Canadiens have said that the top pairing will be Karl Alzner and Jeff Petry, but John Lu of TSN has this on the blueline:

At the morning skate, the Canadiens reported that Alzner and Petry would be a pairing, which has a chance of becoming a real pairing when the season starts.

In net, you’ll probably see Al Montoya and Zachary Fucale splitting the game. Rinse and repeat in the preseason.

Boston Using Youth

When Claude Julien’s former team comes to town, there won’t be a ton of regulars in the lineup.

Zane McIntyre and Malcolm Subban will split goaltending duties for the evening.

Game time is 7:00 PM EST, and you can find the game on RDS.
