Game Day Preview: Habs vs. Lightning

After punching their ticket to the playoffs on Thursday, the Canadiens will look to increase their division lead in a tilt with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Habs (44-24-9) come in to Tampa Bay having won three straight, the most recent of which being a 6-2 rout of the Florida Panthers at the Bell Centre. That regulation win clinched the 83rd playoff berth in the history of the Canadiens. With a win against the Lightning and a Senators regulation loss to the Jets, the Habs Atlantic lead could grow to eight points.

Despite winning four straight games, the Lightning (38-29-9) are still three points behind the Bruins for the final wild card spot in the East with one game at hand over Boston.

Medical Report:

Torrey Mitchell did not skate with the Canadiens this morning. Mitchell is apparently dealing with an illness of some sort. Jordie Benn did skate with the Habs, but is not expected to play tonight. Al Montoya remains day to day, as Charlie Lindgren is still with the Canadiens.

For the Lightning, injuries have been the trademark of their season. In fact, the standings might look much different had Tampa had better injury luck this year.

Both Steven Stamkos and Tyler Johnson practiced Saturday, but will not be in the lineup against the Canadiens. Jason Garrison and Cedric Paquette will also miss tonight’s game.

Bryan Burns, a beat writer for the Lightning, has the lineup for the Lightning

Montreal’s only changes will come on the fourth line:

Pacioretty – Danault – Radulov

Byron – Plekanec – Gallagher

Galchenyuk – Shaw – Lehkonen

King – McCarron – Martinsen

Markov – Weber

Davidson – Petry

Beaulieu – Emelin

It will be Andrei Vasilevskiy against Carey Price.
