Mete Makes the Habs as Montreal Finalizes Roster

With the submission of their opening night roster on Tuesday at 5:00PM Eastern, Montreal confirmed that 19 year-old defenseman Victor Mete would make the team.

Conventional thinking tells us that Mete has just earned another nine-game tryout with the club, as he still has junior eligibility. If Mete’s play dips and he needs more seasoning, he would need to be sent back to London of the OHL. If Mete plays a tenth game with the Canadiens, his contract would begin, and a year of his entry level deal would be burned.

Here’s what Montreal looks like heading into Buffalo for the first game of the 2017-18 season:

D – Shea Weber (6)

D – Jordie Benn (8)

F – Brendan Gallagher (11)

F – Tomas Plekanec (13)

F – Torrey Mitchell (17)

D – Karl Alzner (22)

F – Philip Danault (24)

F – Jacob De La Rose (25)

***On Injured Reserve

Schlemko, on the IR, will not take up a spot on the 23 man roster until he is activated. Once he’s activated, Montreal will need to accommodate his return.

Also on Tuesday, Andreas Martinsen and Byron Froese cleared waivers and were assigned to the Laval Rocket.
