Montreal Trades Sergachev to Tampa for Drouin

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired Jonathan Drouin and a conditional 6th round draft pick in 2018 for  Mikhail Sergachev and a conditional 2nd round draft pick in 2018.

Drouin, a native of Ste-Agathe Quebec, was drafted third overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Appearing in 164 games, Drouin has 95 points, 29 of which are goals. Drouin is coming off of a breakout season, scoring 53 points in 73 games. Drouin also played for the Under-23 North American team at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Drouin is a pending RFA that will need to be protected in the expansion draft.

Mikhail Sergachev was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens 9th overall at the 2016 NHL Draft. Sergachev won the Memorial Cup with the host Windsor Spitfires last month. Sergachev has appeared in four games NHL games.

Pierre LeBrun reports that the conditions on the draft picks are dependent on the number of games played by Sergachev this year.

If Sergachev plays in 40 games, the draft picks in the deal are wiped out.
