Nikita Scherbak Signs 3-Year Contract with Habs

The Montreal Canadiens signed their first round pick, Nikita Scherbak, to a 3-year entry-level contract.

The 18-year old winger scored 28 goals and added 50 assists in 65 regular season games with the Saskatoon Blades, of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 2013-2014.

He led his team in goals, assists, points (leading by 35 points) and powerplay goals (8). He finished first in scoring among all WHL rookies, leading by 19 points.

Originally from Moscow, Scherbak represented his country for the first time when he suited up for Team Russia in the 2013 Subway Series. He also participated in the the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in 2014.

Before joining the Blades, Scherbak played in Russia for Kapitan Stupino (MHL) during the 2012-2013 season. He amassed 14 points, including 7 goals when he was only 16 years old.
