What The Torrey Mitchell Trade Means

On Thursday, your Montreal Canadiens traded Torrey Mitchell to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a conditional 2018 5th round pick.

If the Kings qualify for the playoffs, the 2018 5th round pick will turn into a 2018 4th round pick. Coincidentally, the same 2018 4th round pick that was used to get Dwight King last trade deadline.

This trade opens the door for the likes of Peter Holland and/or Daniel Carr to be promoted to the Habs. With Torrey Mitchell off the books, Marc Bergevin has an additional $1.2M in cap to play with. The Torrey Mitchell trade most likely implies that a younger player will receive more playing time. The trade also means Marc Bergevin may get an asset in the future, with the extra cap.

Torrey Mitchell leaves the Canadiens with 174 games under his belt, along with 19 goals and 18 assists in the regular season. He will be remembered for his early season scoring sprees and his feisty play.
